The United Passaic Organization (UPO)
The designated Community Action Agency for the City of Passaic is a non-profit, broad based community service organization, which is committed to providing service to enhance the quality of life of the people of Passaic.
The organization was incorporated in 1981 by an interfaith group of clergy and lay people, who wanted to improve the quality of life in Passaic by addressing issues of common concern. For the past years the organization has developed a strong track record of effective service on behalf of all the residents of this community.
Today this service has taken a multi-pronged approach in the form of emergency food and temporary shelter programs, homelessness prevention, utility and weatherization assistance, job training, case management, community organization, early intervention for at-risk youngsters in terms of mentoring and academic assistance and community wide health related initiatives.
Throughout its history, the United Passaic Organization has worked for community wholeness by networking and collaborating with key community resources, working together towards one common goal, the betterment of our community. The organization continues to keep its hand on the pulse of the community so as to keep its services relevant to the needs of the people of this community. This involves the development of new initiatives as the need arises and resources permit.
We invite the residents of Passaic to join us in the struggle to rid our city of poverty and to empower those who feel powerless. Together, we can make a real difference.
